Research Ethics Committee

  1. The Research Ethics Committee (REC) is responsible for ensuring that research conducted within the university meets ethical standards. The Chair of the REC is an ex-officio member of the University’s Research Standing Committee. The REC’s responsibilities include: Advising the Research Standing Committee on the maintenance and administration of the University’s ‘Research Involving Human and Animal Subjects’ policy.

  2. Reviewing, and approving, research proposals to ensure they comply with ethical and legal responsibilities for Human and Animal subject research projects.

  3. Assessing the potential risks and benefits of research projects involving human participants or animals.

  4. Providing guidance and training to researchers on ethical considerations and best practices.

  5. Monitoring ongoing research to ensure continued adherence to ethical principles.

  6. Investigating, reporting and addressing any ethical concerns or violations that may arise during the course of a research project.

  7. Maintaining transparency and accountability in the review process and decision-making
