What Are Reference Tools? Reference tools are:

  • printed books and online databases
  • items you "refer" to quickly for background information, including:
    • encyclopedias
    • dictionaries
    • statistics
    • definitions or facts

Reference Books Reference Databases

Because the Social and Behavioral Sciences represent a broad spectrum of subjects, there are many reference books on these subjects in the library. 

The most extensive reference source is the INTERNATIONAL ENCYCLOPEDIA OF THE SOCIAL AND BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES, a 26 volume set.  It is found in REF H 41 .I58 2001.
