Dr. Tony Murphy takes his experience helping
develop Ireland from an agricultural-driven economy into a world leader in IT
and applies the same principles to the Arab region. Ireland, a country of only
3.5 million people, is the second largest software exporter in the world, sells
half of all PCs sold in Europe and is the European base to Dell, Lotus, Intel,
AOL, IBM and EMC. By addressing the specific challenges within the Arab
region-including what he coins the "Mr. 10 percent syndrome," the slow
bureaucratic process, aversion to teamwork and unchallenged authority
figures-and speaking to the opportunities-including the large scale Arabisation
of software and the Internet being undertaken locally and in European and the
fast rate the local ICT sector has been growing-Dr. Murphy will address how the
Arab region can emerge as a successful and prosperous knowledge economy in only
a short time.
