The Zayed University e-biz challenge, now in its third year, encourages student teams from across the Gulf to submit e-business plans for judging by industry leaders. For the purpose of promoting the competition to students and potential sponsors, contest organizers at Zayed University’s Institute for Technological Innovation (ITI) will have a booth at GITEX Dubai 2004, October 3-7, in Hall 8, Stand 815.

ADWEA completes it first phase staff training in Abu Dhabi

ADWEA ICDL Training
ITI has successfully completed the ICDL training for the first 41 trainees, and are soon expecting the subsequent cohort comprising of 59 trainees.

ICDL Certificate Updates

Renewal of ICDL Certification
ITI has successfully renewed its ICDL Certificates for the coming year as a training and testing center. On 16th & 17th December 2003 , ICDL UAE made an audit visit to the Abu-Dhabi campus and ITI DIC facilities.  ICDL UAE Quality Assurance Team checked the system and procedures being followed to register trainees in the ICDL training program as well as ITI’s record keeping procedures. As a result of the successful audit , ITI is now approved to commence issuing certificates to all trainees who pass their ICDL training and examinations.

Mr. Mohammed Khalifa (Quality Assurance in ICDL, UAE) declared: “ITI is one of the most organized Centers in the UAE using a high level of technology and providing the best facilities which are made available to all students”. Mr. Khalifa also expressed his delight at having such a superb center available in the UAE.


Advanced ICDL Certificate
ITI, as part of its continued commitment to the ICDL Program will shortly launch the ICDL Advanced Certificate in two modules: " Word Processing with Word XP" and " Spreadsheets with Excel XP".


ICDL Summer Camp
After the success of the 2003 ICDL Summer Camp in Abu Dhabi in which 600 students participated, planning is underway for the implementation of the 2004 ICDL Summer Camp.  The summer camps play an important role in in promoting the role of Zayed University in the community and are provided under the support of the President's Office and in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Education Zone


The ADWEA Training
The ITI has commenced ICDL training for ADWEA employees in Abu-Dhabi. The training program started with the first cohort comprising of 41 trainees. These trainees are expected to complete their training in January 2004. Subsequent cohorts will follow, with scheduled completion of the series of cohorts in June 2004.

It's Never Too Late to Learn

At 68 years old, Mr. Charles Henry Wilson is the oldest person to sit the ICDL certification examination in the Institute for Technological Innovation at Dubai Internet City, Mr. Wilson re-enforces the fact that the ICDL certification is open to any person of any age who wishes to improve their IT Skills. IT Trainer Heba Saif said "Mr. Wilson is not only the oldest student he also completed the exams in a very short time frame. He is a great example that it is never too late to learn." Microsoft. Net Workshop
The Microsoft.Net workshop, planned by ITI in cooperation with Microsoft, represents a dramatically more personal, integrated computing experience. Using connected Web services, .NET experiences are centered around the user, integrating their data and preferences with a range of services into a unified, personalized experience - all delivered through any device.



e-enablement Workshop
Internet-based e-solutions can make corporations and government agencies less distant and easier to deal with. Vast amounts of information and processes can be put within easy reach of the customers and citizens, and citizens and businesses can interact directly with the government, whether it's to complete a social benefits form, make an online payment or even apply for a visa. This workshop examines the challenges, strategies for change, deployment, and interoperability of e-enabled processes.



E-Security Seminars
How important is electronic security to you and your business? The ITI, in partnership with Think 3S, an e-security company based in the UK is planning to conduct a series of e-security seminars aimed at IT managers and their staff.

Knowledge Management Workshops
The ITI, in cooperation with the UAE Institute for Administrative Development, is planning to launch a series of Knowledge Management Workshops in the first quarter of 2004.  Knowledge Management is a newly emerging, interdisciplinary business model which deals with all aspects of knowledge within the context of a business, including knowledge creation, codification and sharing, and how these activities promote learning and innovation. In practice, Knowledge Management encompasses both technological tools and organizational routines.

Plans for a 2004 IT Forum


IT Forum 

The ITI is planning to launch the IT Forum early in the first quarter of 2004. The Information Technology Forum will address different perspectives of the IT planning and management process covering both managerial and strategic dimensions. It will bring together IT and business leaders to address and learn about current and future IT issues, which will have a profound impact on their organizations.
