Conference Speakers   Noreen Khan-Mayberry Aerospace Toxicologist, NASA

Dr. Noreen Khan-Mayberry joined NASA in 2004. She is a member of the Space and Life Sciences Directorate (SLSD) for aerospace toxicological activities related to the health of flight crew members. Her work supports the Space Shuttle and International Space Station (ISS) programs by providing toxicological evaluations of system and payload materials to determine potential crew exposure to toxins from payload experiments and materials inherently in use on the shuttle and ISS. She is also charged with researching and developing spacecraft air and water regulations for crew health and consumption. Dr. Khan-Mayberry has served as Acting Chief of Habitability and Environmental Factors (HEFO). She has also been appointed to the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, which oversees the humane care and handling of all research and other onsite animal species at Johsnon Space Center (JSC). Other relevant experience from outside of her current role at JSC includes serving as a technical expert on air quality issues pertaining to molds, mycotoxins, toxic biological and chemical substances as agents of bioterrorism. Past leadership roles include office management, team leader, supervisor and serving as an expert advisor. Research experience includes tissue culture, soil, water and air toxicant analyses, remote sensing, environmental planning, creating a chemical toxicant database and ground based environmental assessments. She also has grant writing and reviewing experience.

Dr. Khan-Mayberry's toxicological expertise on a facility remediation project lead to national changes, mandated by the Environmental Protection Agency, in standard procedures specifically in the utilization of unlined ductwork for heating, ventilation, air cooling & refrigeration systems in facilities utilized by the public.
