The aim of the Master of Islamic Studies in Jurisprudence of Reality program offered in Arabic is to qualify national and regional cadres within a contemporary jurisprudence vision based on rigorous scientific and methodological rules. There is a growing need for highly qualified professionals in Imamate, Preaching, Media, Fatwa and Islamic Legal counselling. The program contributes to the consolidation of identity with its national, Arab and Islamic components among students, relying on modern methods of teaching and assessment, enhances students’ knowledge and their critical thinking in these areas.

The program is co-sponsored by Zayed University and Al-Muwatta Center for Studies and Education. Al-Muwatta Center for Studies and Education is a research and educational center under the gracious patronage of His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates.

Professional Outcomes

Emirati researchers, muftis and Islamic jurists will enhance their knowledge in the sciences of Islamic legislation, Sharia objectives, and the principles of jurisprudence and its various branches. Graduates will benefit from a wide range of career opportunities that relate to religion in governmental institutions and structures with cadres familiar with Emirati and Muslim societies. Graduates will be equipped with the skills needed to conduct research that combines knowledge in the areas of Islamic legislation, Sharia objectives and methods of scientific research in line with contemporary developments.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the graduate degree program, graduates will be able to:

  • Conduct research that combines knowledge in the fields of Islamic legislation and its objectives, and principles of jurisprudence and its branches by using the methods of scientific research in dealing with authentic sources;

  • Apply the rules of independent reasoning in jurisprudence to extract Sharia rulings from authentic evidence in line with modern life developments;

  • Issue fatwas (Formal Legal Opinions) that are disciplined within the rules of an accurate understanding of the provisions of the Islamic legislation considering its objectives, ethical goals and different contemporary requirements;

  • Demonstrate and defend the tolerance and facilitation of religion, the concepts of tolerance and peaceful coexistence, and good citizenship;

  • Highlight the methods of jurists in choosing from the transmitted doctrinal views to suit the time, locality, individual and community; and,

  • Linking fatwas (Formal Legal Opinions) and religious discourse to the specificities and interests of the U.A.E. society.

Curriculum

Orientation Seminar

At the beginning of the program, students are required to attend an orientation seminar to introduce the University and its resources, the program and communication and virtual classroom software such as BlackBoard Learn and Collaborate, MS Outlook, Extranet, and Bannerweb.

Faculty

Courses in the graduate program are taught by select professors from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences who are experts in their fields and possess diverse international research experience.
