Two unique artworks, designed by Zayed University graduates, graphic designers Kaltham Mohamed Almarzooki and Mariam Saeed Alshamsi, have earned two of six awards at the fourth edition of Abu Dhabi Art Wings Project Competition organized by the Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA).
Both designs will be on display at Artyfact Abu Dhabi form November 20 to November 23, 2013. Both designers will also take part in a wide education program at Abu Dhabi Art this year.
Kaltham is a graduate of Zayed University’s College of Arts and Creative Enterprises, and currently works as a graphic designer at Abu Dhabi’s Family Development Foundation. In 2012, her work was selected to represent the International Award of her Excellency Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak for Arab Youth. She also designed the biggest stamp in the world which was recorded in Guinness World Records in 2013. A proud patriot.
Mariam, who is also a graduate of Zayed University’s College of Arts and Creative Enterprises, continuously explores news ways to reflect upon society and culture by using mixed-media techniques that include photography, printmaking, drawing, painting and graphic design. In her winning artwork, she was inspired by the beauty of the classical Arabesque patterns and the Oud scent that represents luxury and charm.
Mariam’s works have been exhibited at Zayed University, the Lessendra Gallery in Sofia, Bulgaria, Monash University in Melbourne, the Venice Biennale in Venice, and at the Art for All Community Pavilion at Abu Dhabi Art 2012. As the winner of the twofour54° ‘Ya Khalifatna’ graphic design competition, she received a one-month internship at TBWA\RAAD Abu Dhabi, an award-winning multinational advertising agency and partner of twofour54°.
Commenting on the achievements of both Zayed University graduates, Dr. Stephen Tarantal, Dean of CACE said: “We are always proud to see our graduates fly high and earn public recognition for their accomplishments. Kaltham and Mariam have worked hard to mark such great achievements, and we congratulate them on behalf of Zayed University students, faculty and staff”.
