Zayed University film plays in London

Dreams in Their Eyes, the award-winning Zayed University directed and produced film, was played earlier this week in the Palestine Film Festival in London.   The festival is billing the film as the first Emirati film to be made in the refugees camps in Lebanon. 

The film won Best Emirati Film, and Best Documentary at the 2012 Abu Dhabi Film Festival, Best Documentary at the 2013 Zayed University Middle East Film Festival, and was selected for the Jaipur International Film Festival 2013 in India.

The film was directed by Zayed University students Abeer Al Marzouqi, Ayesha Al Ameri, and Khawla Al Maamari and produced by assistant producer Alia Yunis.  

The 19-minute documentary chronicles the lives of three children in the Palestinian refugee camps of Lebanon through their relationship with a US volunteer medical mission, namely the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF).  The documentary was filmed during a week in which a Chilean mission of volunteer orthopedic surgeons arrived to perform critical surgery on children in different refugee camps around Lebanon

“Making this film changed my life.  We made this film a year ago, but every day I think of the people we filmed. I really learned about how little others live on.  Just two hours of electricity a day.  We are very lucky,” said Khawla Al Maamari, co-director, Dreams in their Eyes.

The film played on May 12, 2013 at the prestigious School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) Khalili Hall.
