Start-Up Grants for New Faculty
Start-Up Research Grants are designed to assist new faculty, within their first year of contract with ZU to continue previous research or to seed new research.
Start-Up Grants aim to:
1. assist new faculty to continue ongoing research projects; or
2. seed new faculty directed research, which would normally be eligible for annual Research Incentive Fund (RIF) grant funding.
Start-Up Grant recipients are expected to apply for a RIF Grant in the next award cycle.
Application
Eligible faculty may apply for a Start-Up Grant by submitting the Research Project Description to their Director or academic Dean. Further information can be found here. Form and guidelines are available in Arabic as well (1), (2). Allocation of Start-Up Grant funding is at the discretion of the Director or Dean of the college or unit. Start-Up fund can go up to AED 20,000 for regular research project and up to AED 30,000 for lab-based project.
The Office of Research will allocate funding for Start-Up Grants to the College Deans each semester.
