Student Video Competition
Rules and Regulations
- The competition is open to all matriculated undergraduate and graduate students who maintained significant control over the content and aesthetics of the submitted program (producing, directing, writing, editing etc.).
- A single program (entry) can be entered into only ONE of the following sub-categories: UAE Land, UAE People and UAE Leaders. Competition organizers and/or judges may determine whether an entry meets the defined sub-category criteria (see Sub-category Definitions for details).
- All productions, completed after 1 May 2007 are eligible. Applicants are allowed only one entry per category with a maximum of three categories overall.
- Each entry must be submitted on a separate tape or DVD.
- Each entry should contain no more than a ten-minute excerpt from the work. Winning entries may require longer clips for the festival.
- Each entry must be student produced and must be an original work. Entrants must be, or have been, a matriculated student at the time of the production.
- Applicants must submit one complete entry form for each program submitted. A copy of the entry form must be sent directly to Zayed University (See Submission Guidelines for details). Incomplete entry forms or absence of required information will disqualify the applicant from competition.
- Applicants must submit ONE VHS (PAL) TAPE or ONE CD/DVD for each entry. All entries must be in English, contain English subtitles, or have an English script translation accompanying the entry. Works in progress are not eligible.
- Submission Requirements: All entries must be submitted on 1/2 inch VHS (PAL) or Standard Definition DVD (PAL), or CD only. Send the highest quality dub possible but DO NOT SEND MASTER TAPES OR ORIGINALS. Videotapes that are submitted in any format other than VHS (PAL) or are not viewable for any reason will not be accepted into the competition.
- All tapes must be clearly labeled with the title of the program, name of institution, running time, and the applicant's name, address, and telephone number.
- Entries WILL NOT be returned. The Noor Ali Competition organizers, its management or its juries cannot assume liability for damage or loss. All submitted audio and videotape materials must be high quality copies. DO NOT send originals, masters, or anything considered one-of-a-kind.
- If an entity other than the applicant owns the rights to all or part of the submitted program, the applicant must attach written consent from the owner or an authorized representative of the owner with the contest application.
- The decision of the judges is final, and winners may not be selected in all categories.
- Competition organizers must authorize any and all exceptions to the rules and regulations.
- Entries must be received by 5pm on 24 April 2008 to be eligible for competition. Late entries will not be accepted.
Judging
- The submissions will be judged on the quality of the technical, creative and aesthetic quality of the visual, aural and editing elements, evidence of quality directing and producing and, depending on the category, the clarity and organization of the message and execution of intended message.
- A jury of qualified academics or industry professionals will judge each video.
- The decision of the judges is final, and winners may not be selected in all categories.
- Judges disqualify themselves from judging any projects with which they or their school are connected. The alternate judge's scores will replace theirs.
