Val
Singh is internationally known for her research on women, diversity and leadership
undertaken in one of Europe's leading business schools. She is Senior Research
Fellow in organizational behavior, leading research in the Centre for Developing
Women Business Leaders at the Cranfield School of Management, where she undertook
her Ph.D. She is Gender Editor of The Journal of Business Ethics. Dr.
Singh's current research focuses on gender and ethnic diversity on top UK (FTSE
100) company boards; diversity management across Europe; women's corporate networks,
work/life balance; impression management; role models and mentoring. Her work
has been widely published and discussed in many arenas, including the December
launch of the 2004 Female FTSE Report at Downing Street, and in the House of Lords
debates on women directors. She has presented her work in 15 countries, made keynote
speeches both in the UK and internationally at women's events, spoken on TV and
radio, and there are around 280 press articles in 11 countries on the Centre's
research since it started in 2000. Dr. Singh's consultancy
assignments include lecturing, researching, writing and conference speaking. She
is a regular judge of the UK National Business Awards, and advises on the Management
Today top women and Good Housekeeping top Asian and black women features.
She speaks several languages, including Swedish and Norwegian. With a varied and
multi-national portfolio career, Val was previously a manager in higher education,
an English language teacher in Sweden, a textile handicrafts teacher in Norway,
and an executive in the Civil Service. Val is married to an engineering professor
and has three sons, now living in the UK, Norway and Dubai.
